  • Notes
    • Roena E. Ripsom - September 13, 1845 - January 11, 1927. Daughter of John and Ellen McMarlin Ripsom. Wife of Hartwell Douglass. Section 2, Row 11.
Newspaper Obituary - January 19, 1927 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Rena Ripsom Douglass departed for her "Mansion Above" last Tuesday evening as the shades of evening were being drawn and the world was passing towards slumber of the night. She had never been sick, to mention, and her appreciation of danger from illness was not very keen, so she did not realize her nearness to the valley of death until the shadows fell. She was stricken with pneumonia about two weeks before her passing and in spite of all the best nursing could do for her she went beyond the danger line and slipped away. Mrs. Douglass was born in a house not now standing, on the west side of the long hill leading from the north to Daysville cemetery, on the road leading south from Port Ontario. Her birth occurred September 13, 1845. She was daughter of Captain John Ripsom. When she became the wife of Hartwell Douglass, sixty years ago the 6th of February, she went up a few rods to a home the young farmer had ready. There she lived for forty years, laboring and making a home for the present and providing for the future. She was many years a faithful member of Daysville Grange and attended the little church at Daysville while residing there. When, twenty years ago last December, Mr. Douglass bought the Tollner house, Jefferson Street, they came to Pulaski to reside. Ten years ago the coming 6th of February, an elaborate celebration of their golden wedding took place in their home which was attended by a great gathering of friends. Last spring they moved to the home, formerly the Dixson house, Jefferson Street. Mrs. Douglass lived much in the quiet of home, gentle, kind, and loved by all her friends. Funeral services were held in the home, Friday, at half past one, with Rev. E. H. Scott, pastor of the Methodist church officiating, assisted by B. G. Seamans who also conducted the committal service at Daysville cemetery. Friends from out of town attending the funeral were her only sister, Mrs. Spencer Knollen, her niece, Mrs. Reo Hadley, of Sandy Creek, and her niece, Mrs. Fred Thomas, of Redfield and Mr. Reo Hadley, of Sandy Creek.
