Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, November 30, 2006 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Alma L. Hurd, 92, Springbrook Apartments, died Wednesday at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown. Mrs. Hurd retired from Pulaski Academy and Central School as a cook manager in 1977, after 24 years' service. Born October 7, 1914, in Adams, daughter of Newton J. and Bessie Waite Gilbert, she graduated in 1930 from Liverpool High School as valedictorian and moved to the Pulaski area. She married Maurice J. Hurd on August 2, 1935, at Sandy Creek with the Rev. Walter S. Dobbie officiating. They moved to North Road in 1944 and owned and operated a dairy farm for 25 years. Mr. Hurd died December 10, 1989. Mrs. Hurd was a member of Park United Methodist Church, Grange 730 and Pulaski RSVP and volunteer for Sandy Creek Friendship Shop. Surviving are a son and his wife, Maurice J. Jr. and Virginia, Sandy Creek; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann M. Gibbs, Pulaski, and Mary E. and Joseph Patterson, Cresson, Pennsylvania; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Rupert L. "Bud" Fancy officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Park United Methodist Church, Hubble Street, Pulaski, New York 13142.
