      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 8, 1948 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - C. M. Woods Drowns in Black River Bay -Chauncey M. Woods, 48, View road, owner and operator of a bottled gas and heating company of this village, lost his life by drowning in Black River Bay, near Dexter. Monday afternoon about 2 p.m. Mr. Woods with his wife had gone to that vicinity to spend the weekend with their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Minnick and Mr. and Mrs. Simon Glover, who own a cottage on the west shore of the bay near the mouth of Perch river. It had been a custom each year at this time to make this outing to celebrate Mr. Woods' birthday which was Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Woods were in their 14-ft. duck boat, crossing the bay to buy gasoline, when the boat apparently hit an obstruction throwing him into the water. Unable to swim, Mrs. Woods summoned help as soon as possible. His body, however, was not recovered until the following day about 11 a.m. when Kenneth Ostrander and Hany Minnick located it by dragging operations. They were two of a party of friends who were trying to locate the body. Funeral services will be conducted from the Foster funeral home at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) by Rev. Daniel Fowler, pastor of the Congregational church. Burial will be made in the Pulaski cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cecil Reese Woods; his mother, Mrs. Mary Woods, Pulaski; and one brother Robert Woods, Fredonia; also a half-sister, Mrs. Nellie Clement, Orwell; two half-brothers, Norman E. Woods, Pulaski, and Lewis Woods, El Monte, California; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Woods was born in Pulaski July 3, 1900, a son of Mrs. Mary House Woods and the late William M. Woods. He was educated in the local school and in April 6, 1920 he was married to Miss Cecil Reese. For six or seven years he was maintenance man at the old Rogers Milk Corp. later, known as the Sheffield plant in Rome street. In 1927 he engaged in the delivery of bake goods to stores, for the Ward Baking company, a position which he held for a period of 16 years. In the fall of 1943, Mr. Woods accepted a position with Bechel-Price-Callahan Construction company. a Canol project in Canada, a war-time project for the government. After two years he returned to Pulaski, where he established his present business in Lewis street. Mr. Woods was a member of the Pulaski Lodge, F. & A.M., and also a member of Pulaski Rod and Gun club.
