      Pauline E. Houghton, 71, of 25 Eagle Drive, died Thursday morning at her home, where she was under the care of Lewis County Hospice.

      While living in Monroe, Mrs. Houghton was a telephone operator at Highland Telephone.

      Born Nov. 4, 1928, in Ricard, a daughter of Harry L. and Lydia Helbock Archibee, she was a 1946 graduate of Pulaski Academy.

      She married Donald R. Houghton on Jan. 11, 1948, at First Baptist Church, Carthage, with the Rev. Earl E. Chanley, pastor, officiating.

      Mrs. Houghton was a volunteer for Girl Scouts of America in Carthage and Monroe. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting.

      Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. George (Julie) Shafer, West Monroe; two sisters, Mrs. John (Alice) Walker, Syracuse, and Anita Leana, Brantingham; two grandsons, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

      Three brothers, Arnold, Lee and Donald Archibee, died before her.

      The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Virkler-Percoski Funeral Home, Lowville, with the Rev. John A. Shuck, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Lowville, officiating. Spring burial will be in Brantingham Cemetery.

      Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, N.Y. 13367.
