    • November 22, 1896 ~ Ella V. Calkins, age 34 years, Married, Matron, born in Richland Township, Daughter of Thomas Stewart, died in Daysville, Richland Township of measles and heart disease.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 2, 1896 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Daysville, November 30th - Death has again visited this place and removed from among us one of our most beloved inhabitants in the person of Ella Stewart, wife of Fred Calkins and daughter of T. T. Stewart, of Holmesville. Mrs. Calkins has been suffering from a complication of disease since early spring and the physicians had pronounced her recovery impossible, but her family hoped to have her with them for some time to come, until she had an attack of Measles which terminated in her death. Mrs. Calkins was a lovely character. Gentle and affectionate, patient and kind, she won and retained the love of all her acquaintances. The high esteem in which she was held by the people here was evidenced by the large attendance at the funeral which was held at her late residence on Tuesday of last week. Of her immediate family she leaves a grief stricken husband and two children, Claude and Hazel, who have lost the greatest boon, a mother's love. Rev. Sherman delivered the funeral address and the Holmesville choir sang. Her age was 34 years.
