Newspaper Obituary - February 15, 1962 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Hardie Rites Friday - Hazel L. Hardie, 73, died on Wednesday, February 14, at her home on Port St., Pulaski. She was born on June 23, 1888, at Daysville, the daughter of Fred and Ella Stewart Calkins. Mrs. Hardie attended grade schools in Daysville and Fernwood as a child, and graduated from the Pulaski Academy in 1904. In 1905 she graduated from the Pulaski Training Class, after which she attended Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. On June 15, 1910, she married Roy W. Hardie. After their marriage, they lived in several of the New England states, where Mr. Hardie worked as a manager for the Woolworth Company. For many years, Mrs. Hardie conducted her own insurance business from which she recently retired. Surviving besides her husband, Roy, are a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Virginia) Davis, of Oswego; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nila Calkins of Pulaski; a half-sister, Mrs. Lewis (Ella) Webb, Fernwood; her step-mother, Mrs. Stella Calkins, Fernwood; and a niece, Mrs. Dorothy Nicholson, Pulaski. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Pulaski and the Pulaski Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. An Eastern Star service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Foster Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald W. Jones, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9. Interment will be in the Daysville Cemetery in the spring.
