      Richard V. Halsey Sr., 65, Towne Road, retired employe of the state Department of Transportation, died at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday in Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse, after a long illness.

      The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, the Rev. Richard W. Pero, pastor of Fernwood United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood.

      Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

      Surviving are two sons, Richard V. Jr., Central Square, and Douglas, West Monroe; a daughter, Mrs. John (Anne) Mundy, Pulaski; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles (Dorcas) Summerville, Sandy Creek; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald, Pulaski; a sister, Mrs. Genevieve Webb, Pulaski, and nieces and nephews.

      A sister, Lucille Ardner, died previously.

      Born at Fernwood on April 3, 1924, son of Verner and Bertha Manwarren Halsey, he was a lifelong resident of the Pulaski area and a Pulaski High School graduate.

      He was employed by the state Department of Transportation for many years, retiring in 1986.

      He married Mabel Parks on April 1, 1973, in Pulaski. Mrs. Halsey died July 24, 1988. A previous marriage ended in divorce.

      Mr. Halsey was a member of the Fernwood United Methodist Church and the Couples' Sunday Night Bowling League, Central Square. He was also an avid fan of stockcar racing.
