- Walter B. Ames - December 27, 1920 - September 13, 1996. Son of Earl David and Grace Elizabeth Fox Ames. Husband of Orra Jean Overholt (married 1946, divorced) & Mary Joyce Bayley DeSantis Ames. [Note: Orra Overholt died August 8, 1981, and is buried in Mexico Cemetery, Mexico, New York] [Note: Mary DeSantis Ames died April 16, 1999, and is buried in Hastings Cemetery, Hastings, New York.]
Newspaper Obituary - Sunday, September 15, 1996 Syracuse Herald American - Syracuse, New York - The Rev. Walter B. Ames, 75, of 7501 East Main Street, died Friday at Oswego Hospital after a long illness. Born in Richland, he lived in Parish since 1973. He was the pastor of the North Mexico United Methodist Church for 20 years. He was a town of Parish justice. He was a member of the Mexico Lodge 136 F&AM and a member of the Mexico Chapter 135 Royal Arch Masons. He was also a member of the Arbiet Lodge International Order of Odd Fellows, Mexico, a former member of the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Parish Senior Citizens. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Joyce Bayley; two daughters, Menidy Knips of Hamburg and Deborah Geruso of Denton, Texas; four sons, David Ames of Kerrville, Texas, Daniel Groff of Barnes Corners, Mark DeSantis of Hastings and John DeSantis of East Amherst, New Jersey; a brother, Lawrence of Indian Lake; two sisters, Mary Murray of Indian Lake and Juanita Hiltz of Maywood, New Jersey; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Harter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 7430 West Main Street, Parish. Contributions may be made to McFee Ambulance Corps, Watson Avenue, Mexico 13114 or to North Mexico United Methodist Church.
