    • Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 20, 1891 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In Sandy Creek, New York, August 11, 1891, at 9 p.m., Hon. John Parker, aged 81 years. This aged and highly respected citizen of Orwell, had gone to Sandy Creek for medical treatment when he was suddenly taken with an acute attack of bowel difficulty and soon died. The remains were taken to his Orwell residence where the funeral was held. It was attended by a large concourse of people. Mr. Parker was born in Oneida County, removing to Orwell about fifty-six years since. Just after the rebellion of '61-'5 deceased served two terms in the State Legislature. He was a man of perfect uprightness of character and for this he was especially beloved. He dreaded debt as much as men usually dread death. For many years he had laid securely aside in his house $100 in gold which was to be used to defray all necessary funeral expenses whenever occasion should require. He was generous and indulgent with his children and was altogether a good man, one whom the entire community will miss. For many years he had taken seven copies of the Pulaski Democrat, sending them to his friends in the west. He always paid in advance and it was on the occasion of his calls at the Democrat office that the writer learned to know him so well. For several years he has been in failing health and he was accustomed to of late years to remarking that it could not be many more times he should call, and concluding with, "I wanted my business matters to be all straight, so there shall be no trouble after I am gone." Four sons, one daughter and an affectionate wife survive him. The children are Horace Parker, of Orwell, Loren Parker, of Denver, Colorado, Charles Parker, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Frank Parker, of Marshall, Minnesota. The daughter is Mrs. Alice Church, of Charlotte, North Carolina. The latter with her husband and Frank Parker and wife attended the funeral, which was held on the 14th inst. Messrs. O. L. and B. F. Davis, of Albion, Michigan, brothers of Mrs. Parker, were also in attendance at the funeral. In addition to his efficient work at the State Legislature he had held other offices of trust and honor and always faithfully and promptly performed his duties. The family have the sympathy of the entire community.
