  • Notes
    • Newspaper Obituary - December 26, 1929 Sandy Creek News - ROBERT DANA - It is with great regret that we write these lines recording the passing away of one we loved so well and will not forget for a long time. He has left this world of ours to dwell in a more beautiful one where tears never flow and no sorrow or pain dwell. Robert Dana, was born in the town of Ellisburg, September 15, 1846, his parent dying when he was only five years of age. When he was seventeen years of age and the war was raging, he felt it his duty to give his life to save his country, so he enlisted as a private under Captain Loomis in Company K, 20th Regiment of New York Cavalry on the ninteenth day of August, 1863. He served his time as faithfully as he could until the war closed, when he was honorably discharged, July 31, 1865. In the year of 1866, he was united in marriage to Adelia Hinds of Ellisburg and to them were born five children, Fauster, Fred, Flora, Mate and Harley, all of whom are living with the exception of Fauster and Mate. In 1890 his wife died, leaving him alone with the children, and in 1893 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Clara Nutting of Henderson. To them were born three children. Mr. Dana was stricken about seven years ago with a shock and has never been like himself since. It affected his brain so he had been nearly a constant care. He was a good neighbor and a kind loving father and his memory will long live among us. He leaves to mourn his loss a widow who has done all that could be done for him to the last; also two sons, George Dana of Minetto, Harley Dana of Pulaski and one daughter, Mrs. Flora Loatwall of Lacona, children of his first marriage, and three daughters, Mrs. Fred Stowell of Lacona and Misses Fannie and Jessie Dana of Sandy Creek by his second wife; one stepdaughter, Mrs. George Chrisman of Sandy Creek and several grandchildren.
