      Mark,
Thank you so much for this wonderful information.Amy MANTHORNE married my father's brother, Leon VAN VALKENBURG. He met her in Boston as a WWI soldier and proposed to her when he returned from the war. She left Boston with her father, came out to the MN prairie, married farmer, Leon VAN VALKENBURG, and raised seven sons. She must have felt as though she had come to the end of the world. Her family says, smilingly, that her sole domestic skill in the kitchen was making fudge. But she could play the piano and violin and filled her home and the rural community with music. She was my favorite aunt and I always wanted to know more about her. One of her older sisters (don't know which one) was a mail order bride and got on a train for Saskatchewan from Port Medway. I don't believe Amy ever saw her again.Amy's numerous descendants will be thrilled to have this information on their grandmother and her family. Amy d. 22Nov 1961 and is buried next to her husband in Evergreen Cemetery, Long Prairie, Todd Co., MN.I have a couple of questions - do you have the locations of Amy's Manthorne ancestors in Nova Scotia ?I understand that the immigrant ancestor, William, settled at Dartmouth and Amy's father, Alexander, was purportedly b. at Port Medway. Did Stephen MANTHORNE have any other children other than Amy's father, Alexander, b. 1847?I show Amy's mother's parents as being "of Boston". - do you have any further information on Joseph ATKINS and wife, Azuba, especially birthplaces? How would I go about finding additional information on Capt. Alexander MANTHORNE? He was a sea captain -- of what type of ship? Fishing? Transport? Owned his own ship? Worked for a shipping/fishing company? Were most of the early MANTHORNEs mariners?
      Thanks again.
