Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 12, 1909 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Walter Clark Holmes - Last Wednesday evening, at his home in this village, occurred the death of Walter Clark Holmes, one of the most highly respected citizens of our village and many years a resident here. Mr. Holmes was born in Lee, Oneida County January 13, 1841. In 1866 he moved to this village where he engaged in cheese making. In 1869 he took to be his wife, Eliza Holmes. Two daughters were born to them, Mrs. Robert Courtney, New York and Mrs. Frederick A. Clark, of Pulaski, who would the widow survive. Mr. Holmes conducted his own cheese factory up to three years ago and the past three years he conducted a factory at Colosse, aside from which time he has been a resident and conducted business here. His health failed last summer and the best of medical skill seem to be baffled and he gradually declined until the triumph of the inevitable last Wednesday evening. Mr. Holmes was an honored citizen, a devoted husband and father and his death is a great loss to our community. He was a member of the Methodist church, and Pulaski Lodge, F. & A. M., and had served the village as a member of the Board of Trustees. Besides the wife and daughters he is survived by a brother, Emery B. Holmes, of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Street, of Chicago, and Mrs. Edgar Balding, of Chicago. The funeral services were held from the home, Saturday, at three o'clock, Rev. Frederick Maunder officiating. A large delegation of the members of the Pulaski Lodge, F. & A. M., were at the home and the officers accompanied the remains to the cemetery where the Masonic ceremony was conducted at the burial. The bearers were members of the Masonic fraternity. Friends from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Emery Holmes, of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Courtney, of New York, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harmon, of Oswego, Mr. M. L. Moran, of Parish, Mrs. Scott, of Syracuse. The testimony of love for Mr. Holmes was beautifully expressed in the profusion of floral pieces and cut flowers which rested upon and surrounded the casket.
