Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 16, 1998 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Donald Hitchcock Sr., Grocery Owner, Steel Worker - The funeral for Donald H. Hitchcock Sr., 86, of Valley Road, Fernwood, a native of Sandy Creek, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Summerville Funeral Home, with his nephew, the Rev. Edward Crandall, officiating. Burial will be in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood. Mr. Hitchcock died Tuesday at Oswego Hospital, where he had been a patient since July 7. There are no calling hours. Mr. Hitchcock, who lived in Fernwood for 60 years, owned and operated the Fernwood Grocery Store for three years, and was later employed by Crucible Steel Corp., Syracuse. He retired in 1984, from Carpenters Union Local 747, Oswego. He was a member and lay speaker of Fernwood United Methodist Church. Born April 26, 1912, at Sandy Creek, a son of Milton and Addie Huffstater Hitchcock, he graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School in 1930. He married Thelma C. Crandall on July 6, 1934, at Sandy Creek. She died February 23. Surviving are four sons, the Rev. Donald Jr., Woodsfield, Ohio, Walter, Thornton, Colorado, Sidney and Gary, both of Pulaski; a sister, Maxine Sanderson, Pulaski; 14 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
