  • Notes
    • FRANK P. BETTS, 68, DEAD AT PULASKI--Leading merchant of village had been in poor health for more than a year.

PULASKI MARCH 22.-Frank Peckham Betts, 68, for many years one of Pulaski's leading merchants, died Friday afternoon, at his home in North Jefferson Street. Mr. Betts had been in poor health for a long time.

He was born here April 9, 1872 the son of Albert F. and Florence Peckham Betts, members of pioneer families in this section. In his early years he was a salesman for the old Dunham Cocoanut Company of Brooklyn but was later associated with his father in the Betts clothing store. In 1897 he entered into partnership with his father-in-law, the late Henry B. Clark, in a general dry goods store on the site of the present Betts block. This firm continued until 1910 when Mr. Betts organized the Betts Department Store. In 1917 this store was destroyed by fire and the present block was built early in 1918 and occupied by him as active head of the business until forced to retire because of ill health.

Mr. Betts was a lover of outdoor life and an ardent sportsman. For many years he was considered one of the expert trout fishermen of this section. When unable to follow the streams for trout, he still enjoyed bass fishing from a boat in the waters of Lake Ontario. He was very active in Masonic affairs for many years and was a member of Pulaski Lodge 415, F.&A.M. and Pulaski Chapter, 279, R.A.M.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kathleen Clark Betts; one son, Albert H. Betts; one daughter; Miss Kathleen M. Betts, and three grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the late home and burial will be in Pulaski cemetery. Bearers will be Frank Brundage, Walter H.Farnham,
Ernest H. Dillenbeck and Harry Minnich.
