  • Notes

    • Alice Campbell Gasperini, 81, passed away peacefully after a prolonged battle with emphysema on April 14, 2010, in Santa Barbara, California where she lived with her daughter, Michelle Gasperini Pasini and family. Alice was born on Sept. 18, 1928, the daughter of Alice Katherine and Thomas Alexander Campbell.

      Alice always believed that “variety is the spice of life” as she touted in her high school year book, and lived her life with a great sense of curiosity and purpose. She often said that her greatest accomplishments were her children, but she was also a pillar of the Pulaski, New York community for 79 years before moving to California. Her beliefs in volunteerism and community service benefited and enriched many people’s lives. She was a devoted member of the DAR and two-time Regent; she was on the Church Council of the Pulaski Congregational Church, and Board of Directors for the Salmon River Fine Arts Gallery, and Pulaski Historical Museum. She was a member of the Pilgrim’s Guild and Tuesday Study Club, and a volunteer at the Pulaski Public Library.

      Alice grew up in Pulaski, N.Y., where she lived most of her life in her family home, owned by her ancestors for the last five generations. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1946 and attended Brown’s Business School in Long Island, a 2-year college program, and worked in New York City before meeting Eugene Gasperini Jr. and marrying him in 1949. Alice was a devoted wife and mother of 9 children, and greatly involved in all aspects of their lives, from school activities, to driving children to lessons in sailing, horseback riding, tennis, golf, ball games, music, and other things. She always encouraged her children to learn as much as possible, do their best at whatever they were doing, be appreciative, and to explore. Her perspective on travel was unique in that she loved the adventure of going on trips herself, but frequently noted they provided an added pleasure of returning home to Pulaski. She was an avid letter-writer and saved postcards from all of her children’s adventures.

      A service of Thanksgiving and Celebration of Life for Alice Gasperini will be held at the Pulaski Congregational Church--A Congregation of The United Church of Christ, 27 Lake Street, Pulaski, N.Y. 13142, on May 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. A call to worship and the invocation will be led by Rev. James C. Tschudy. A reception will follow at the Salmon River Fine Arts Gallery at 19 Lake St. following the service. All family and friends are invited to attend and come celebrate Alice’s life.

      Alice is survived by her children, Joseph (Brooke) of South Boston, Peter (Harjit) of Scarsdale, NY, Penny (Frederick) of Santa Barbara, Calif., Stephen of Victoria, Texas, Connie (Marcus) of Denton, Texas, Kathleen of Los Angeles, Michelle (Bill) of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Jeffrey of Orange Lake, Fl., plus 23 grandchildren, and 4 great-grand children. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Gasperini Jr., and her daughter Alicia.

      In lieu of flowers, Alice requested that donations be given to the Pulaski Congregational Church, 7 Lake St., Pulaski, New York 13142; Salmon River Fine Arts Gallery, 19 Lake St., Pulaski, NY; or Pulaski Historical Society, 3428 Maple Ave., Pulaski, NY 13142.

      The burial will take place on May 3, 2010, at the All Saints Church and Cemetery, 855 Middle Neck Rd., Great Neck, NY 11024, at 10 a.m. Alice will be buried next to her husband, Eugene Gasperini, Jr., in the Gasperini family plot.

      Cards or remembrances may be sent to Joe and Brooke Gasperini, 2607 Halifax Road, South Boston, VA 24592;
