- Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 29, 1889 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Gored by a Bull - An old man named Grout, was on Monday afternoon found nearly dead in the bushes upon M. Lighthall's farm. It was found that his body was seriously bruised and two large holes were in the man's back. Before he breathed his last he said that whenever he tried to help himself the bull would again attacked him. Dr. Caldwell was sent for, but the sufferer had expired before his arrival. In the lot where Mr. Grout was at work was a vicious bull. It is supposed that while the old and infirm man was sitting on a log, eating his dinner, but the bull attacked him. He was found several feet from where he had been sitting, and it is supposed that he was tossed there by the bull. Coroner Nelson held inquest on Tuesday and the verdict rendered with substantially in accordance with the above statement. The deceased will be better known when it is understood that he was a brother of D. W. Grout, for many years a photographer in this village. The funeral was held yesterday and conducted by Rev. Dr. Douglas. The coroner's jury comprised the following named: J. C. Knight, T. M. Moore, L. McCleary, Devere Mead, William Purdy, George Weaver, Charles Penny and Fred Orton. The witnesses were Hiram Fellows, Joel Stewart and Dr. Caldwell.
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, September 5, 1889 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In Richland, New York, Monday, August 26, 1889, Henry Grout, aged 66 years, 8 months and 16 days. The deceased was born in Windham County, Vermont, December 10th, 1821. When he was 5 years of age, he moved with his parents to Gouverneur, New York, where he continued to live until 1848, when he came to this town. One year later he led to the alter Miss Julia Clark, who still survives him. As a result of that marriage they had two sons and two daughters, Charles W. Grout, of Lexington, Kentucky, W. H. Grout, of Fort Wayne, and Miss May Grout and Mrs. Nettie McNett, of this town. He had the respect of all who knew him. Fort Wayne and Gouverneur, New York papers please copy.
