      Obituary for Mae Forbes
      Massena- Mrs. Mae E. Forbes, 88, of 112 Cook Street, peacefully passed away Tuesday evening, April 26, 2011, at her home with her family at her side. She had been in failing health in the past few years.
      Mae was born December 30, 1922, Lawrenceville, NY, the daughter of Edson and Mabel Russell Lindsey. She attended a one room school house in Lawrenceville. On April 29, 1944, she married Winfred G. Forbes, at the Racquette River Methodist Church with Rev. Earl B. Liscome officiating. He predeceased her on March 19, 1995.
      She owned and operated a dairy farm with her late husband from 1944-1964. She also worked at Montgomery Ward in Massena. She later worked as a waitress at the 284 Club in Massena; The Crossroads in Moira and the Dew Drop up in Potsdam. She was a long time member of the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church where she served as a superintendent of Sunday School for 17 years. She also taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School. Mae was a 68 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, first belonging to the Laurentian Chapter #666 until merging with Cretona Chapter #516. In addition, she was a member or the United Methodist Women and enjoyed collecting frog memorabilia. Mae also loved gardening, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
      Mae is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, DeWitt G. and Diane of Massena; Robert W. and Katherine of Brasher Falls; Four grandchildren, Jason, Brent, Sondra, and Danny; six great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and five great step grandchildren. In addition she is survived by her sister, Rita Barber and her companion, Randy of Potsdam and her brother, Edson Lindsey of Esperance, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
      She is predeceased by five brothers, Lawrence, Earl, Waterson, Kenneth, and Robert Lindsey; and two sisters, Laura and Celica Lindsey.
      Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena where funeral services will be held Saturday 2:00 with Rev. Harold Wheat, officiating. The members of the Eastern Star will meet at 7:15 PM Friday for a memorial ritual. Burial will follow the services in Racquette River Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
