      Arthur E. Hilliker, 73, Pulaski and Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., died Saturday at his home in Florida.

      Mr. Hilliker owned Eastern Signal Co., which supplied traffic-control systems to municipalities and other customers throughout New York state.

      Born June 9, 1932, in Pulaski, son of Frank L. and Florence Grant Hilliker, he attended area schools, where he excelled in several sports, of which his favorite was football.

      He served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Wasp VF173. He was a Shellback and a Bluenose and kept in contact with shipmates by attending alumni reunions.

      After college, he was employed by Crouse-Hinds, acquiring 14 patents for his work in the traffic signal division. He established Eastern Signal in 1972.

      Mr. Hilliker was a charter member of Pulaski Lions Club, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and an honorary member of Ringgold Fire Department. He served for several years as Little League president at Pulaski, supported various sports programs and contributed in many ways.

      He was town of Richland supervisor for 17 years and served on the advisory board of Key Bank, Watertown.

      He had been married to the former Gail Plaster for 27 years. After retiring, the couple spent winters in Ponte Vedra Beach.

      A previous marriage ended in divorce.

      Surviving besides his wife are two sons and their wives, Brian and Sharon, Pulaski, and Scott and Allison, Owego; a stepdaughter and her husband, Debra and John Hamilton, Cleveland, S.C.; a stepson, John R. Victor, Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Charles, Lake Oswego, Ore., Stanley and Carnell, Sandy Pond, and Henry L. "Monty" and Melva, Pulaski; a sister and her husband, Lillian and Robert Wheeler, Parkersburg, W.Va.; five granddaughters, a stepgrandson and many nieces and nephews.

      A stepson, Edward Michael Victor Jr., a sister, Elizabeth Scharoun, and two brothers, Carl and Kenneth, died before him.

      The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
