    • Gordon E. Ridgway December 18, 2010 Gordon E. Ridgway, 90, of Co. Rte. 57, Phoenix, NY, died peacefully on Saturday in St. Luke Health Services, Oswego. Born in Newark, NJ, to his late parents, Gordon E. Sr. and Maida (Mestler) Ridgway on January 2, 1920, he attended SUNY Clarkson. Gordon served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army Air Corps, reaching the rank of first lieutenant, piloting a C-47 aircraft in the European Theatre. A participant in the Normandy invasion, he piloted and dropped paratroopers into France at St. Mer Eglias, as well as many other missions. Gordon received a Bronze Star and an Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster for his bravery. Later he was employed by General Electric Co., Syracuse, retiring in 1985 after 40 years. His son, Allan T. Ridgway, predeceased him on July 26, 1989. Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Ellen (Grieve) Ridgway; two daughters, Barbara J. Worns (John Hubbard), both of Richland and Cynthia L. "Cindi" Ridgway of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Michael Ridgway, Jeffrey Ridgway, Shannon Endsley, Nicole Worns and James Worns Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix. A calling hour is 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 431 Main St. Spring burial with military honors will be in Phoenix Rural Cemetery.
