Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 7, 1935 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Mrs. Alice Barclay Harmes, 23, wife of Elroy Harmes, died in the town of Orwell, Wednesday evening, February 27, 1935, after an illness of more than two years. She was born in Richland, January 28, 1912, daughter of the late Sanford and Arlie Smith Barclay. She was married to Mr. IIarmes March 28, 1930. Besides her husband she leaves a daughter, Shirley May Harmes; a step-father Fred Haimes who is also her father-in-law; a brother, Sanford J. Barclay of East Liverpool, Ohio; a sister, Miss Dorothy Barclay of Pulaski; two step-brothers, Harold IIarmes of Avon and Myron Harmes of Mexico; a half-sister, Miss Freida May Harmes of Mexico, and six step sisters, Mrs. Ross Nichols, Mexico; Mrs. Raymond Hardie, Elmira; Mrs. Glenn Carpenter, Fernwood; Miss Ruth Hatines, Pulaski; Miss Thelma Harmes and Miss Pauline Harmes, Mexico. Funeral services were held from the home of her step-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harmes in Mexico at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 2 with Rev. George Butler of the Fernwood Methodist Episcopal church of which she was a member officiating. Interment is in Willis cemetery. The bearers were Lyle Nichols, Eddy District; Harlow Halsey, Owen Halsey, Lawrence Hager, James Valley and Lawrence Alder.
