      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, November 17, 1960 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Earl Cummings Killed by Train at NYC Crossing - Earl Robert Cummings, 33 who lived on the Wart Road, Richland R.F.D. 1, was killed last Thursday morning, November 10, 1960 when his car was struck by the New York Central railroad Beeliner at the Peck Road crossing. The train was traveling south when the accident occurred. According to Trooper R. G. Karle of the Pulaski sub-station of State Police, Mr. Cummings was traveling north on Peck Road and drove his machine onto the tracks as the train approached the intersection. The car was shoved about 75 feet down the tracks and the driver was wedged in the demolished wreck. Death was caused by a broken neck, fractured skull and multiple injuries. The victim's father, Glen Cummings was killed 20 years ago, on August 12, 1940 in a similar accident which occurred at the Centerville Road crossing only two miles from the scene of Thursday's accident. The son was 13 years old at the time. Earl Robert Cummings was born February 20, 1927 in the town of Boylston, a son of Glen and Hattie Kingman Cummings. He had lived in the Richland area for 11 years and was formerly employed by the Snowbird Frozen Foods Company of Syracuse. He was unemployed at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hilga Rasmussen Cummings; two sons, Earl Robert Cummings Jr., 6 and Mark Allen Cummings, 2; a daughter, Glenda Lynn, 5; his mother, Mrs. Arthur McNitt of Richland; a sister, Mrs. Earl (Rosemary) Kemp, Syracuse, a step-sister, Miss Wanda McNiff of Richland and a step-brother, John McNiff of Richland. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Taylor funeral home in Pulaski, with the Rev. Robert Murphy, pastor of Orwell Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Wesleyan cemetery, Sandy Creek.
