Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 20, 1940 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Mrs. Ann E. Vorce, Pioneer Resident, Dies At Age Of 93 - Mrs. Ann Erskine Vorce, 93, a member of one of the pioneer families of the town of Richland and for more than 40 years a resident of Mexico village, passed away quietly in her Norman avenue home late last Wednesday afternoon after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Vorce had been confined to her bed the past six years but her mind remained keen to village and world affairs until the end came. She was born in Richland on July 12, 1847, the daughter of John and Hannah Treadway Erskine. She was a member of the Fernwood Methodist church. Mrs. Vorce was the widow of Henry Vorce. The mother of a large family, Mrs. Vorce is survived by three sons, Harry Vorce, sheriff of Oswego County; Clair Vorce of Syracuse, and Raymond Vorce of Rochester; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Matthewson of Hastings, and Mrs. Anna Dean of Oswego; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Erskine of Pulaski, and 10 grandchildren. Largely attended funeral services were held from the home of her son, Harry Vorce, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Harold H. Barnard, pastor of the Mexico Methodist church, officiating. Burial was made in Willis cemetery. Bearers were four grandsons, C. Preston Vorce, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Angel Mathewson of Newark, New Jersey, Harold Vorce, Syracuse and Albert Dean of Oswego.
