    • Frederick F. Hilton - June 22, 1855 - December 23, 1917. Son of James and Mary West Hilton. Husband of Elizabeth Nicholson Hilton (married about 1878) & Harriet J. Shepard Hilton (married July 12, 1882 in Sand Bank, Albion Township, Oswego County, New York.)
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, December 26, 1917 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Death Claims Fred Hilton - The village was greatly shocked, Sunday morning, when it was told that Frederick F. Hilton, our mail carrier between the depot and the post office, had died. It was scarcely known, outside his own family, that he was off-duty, until the news of his death was announced. Saturday forenoon he carried the mail and went home about half-past eleven, complaining of distress in his stomach. Home remedies were administered but he did not get relief. Physicians were called and it was decided that an operation would be made, Sunday morning, for appendicitis. He grew worse through the night, suffering intensely until about seven o'clock, when he lapsed into a quiet stupor and before the family realized that he had passed away. Frederick F. Hilton was born in the town of Orwell, sixty-two years ago. He was the son of James and Mary West Hilton. He was brought up on a farm and was always a hard worker. Thirty-four years ago he was united in marriage with Hattie Shepard, of Sand Bank. At one time he was employed in the Woodbury Chair Factory, at Orwell, during which time an explosion of a steam boiler took place and Mr. Hilton was hurled out of the building and nearly killed. In the accident he lost one of his hands, yet, despite the crippled condition he was always at work. Twelve years ago he moved to this village and was employed about the town in various occupations until seven years ago when he took the contract to carry the mail from the depot to the post office. He has had a hard job, long hours and hard work with a small salary which necessitated is working much at other things to make a living. He often worked beyond his strength which had much to do with breaking his health. After his death a postmortem revealed the fact that he had an abscess in the stomach for which nothing could have been done as an opening was made by the affection through the wall of the stomach. Mr. Hilton was a member of the Baptist church and Pulaski Lodge, I.O.O.F. His funeral was held this afternoon, at one o'clock. Rev. E. A. Rogers officiated. Burial at Orwell. Mr. Hilton is survived by his widow, two sons, Mervin B., an attorney at Cleveland, Mississippi, and Lester H. in the employ of a railroad, located at Boston; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Elmer Wilson, who resides in the Hilton home; a brother, Hobart Hilton, and a sister, Mrs. J. M. Stowell, of Orwell.

December 23, 1917 - Fred Hilton, age 62 years, 6 months, 1 day. Date of birth June 22, 1855, born in Orwell, New York.
