      Newspaper Article - Wednesday, November 17, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Daysville - Mrs. Amelia Calkins and Mr. and Mrs. James Tollerton were in Pulaski on Friday in attendance at the funeral services of the son and brother, George Sweet Filkins. Mr Filkins formerly resided here and was esteemed for his many good qualities by all with whom he came in contact, who feel that a truly good man has gone to his report.

      Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday November 17, 1897 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Daysville - The funeral services of George S. Filkins of Pulaski were held last Friday. Deceased was a son of Mrs. Adelia Calkins of this place and a half-brother of Mrs. James Tollerton. He formerly resided here and had hosts of friends. Mr. Filkins was a pensioner of the late war, drawing $72 a month for total disability. He was a member of the G. A. R. and also of the Masonic fraternity. A widow and four children survive him.

      Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, November 17, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In this village, November 17, 1897, George S. Filkins. Mr. Filkins had been an invalid for a good number of years and has therefore been shut out from active business life. He was in the government service as a member of the 110 regiment, New York Volunteers. He leaves a wife, two daughters, and one son. His funeral was held from his late residence Friday of last week, Rev. C. H. Guile officiating. The Masonic ceremony was conducted at the house and the Grand Army comrades had charge of the ceremony at the grave.
