      Watertown Daily Times (NY) - February 12, 2015
      Calling hours for Donald F. Towles, Sr. will be Saturday February 14th from 2 pm - 4 pm at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. A memorial service will be at 4 pm following the calling hours. Spring burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

      He was born in Ellisburg, April 23, 1933, one of 15 children to Frank and Mabel (Hess) Towles. He was drafted into the Korean war in 1953 and served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1955.

      Following his military service he returned to the North Country logging when he met his future wife. Following marriage he worked on farms in the Ellisburg area before going to work at Borden's, then Black Clawson in Watertown until he transferred to Queen's Farms Dairy in Pierrepont Manor until his retirement in 1996. Don was a skilled woodworker and carpenter, remodeling his homes and enjoyed building furniture. He was a member of the American Legion Post 521 in Fox Lake, WI. He also enjoyed visits from and visiting his children and grandchildren. Family ties meant the world to him.

      Don married Shirley (Leween) November 5, 1955 at Bethany United Methodist Church in Watertown.

      Prior to his wife's passing they traveled extensively throughout the United States to include Louisiana, Virginia, Washington DC, Missouri and Wisconsin to visit their daughter and son-in-law. Upon his wife's passing he continued to enjoy vacations returning to Washington, DC, Virginia, and Wisconsin. In 2010 he realized a life-long dream of going to Muir Woods in San Francisco, CA to see the giant redwoods and to Las Vegas, NV with his daughter and son-in-law.

      He is survived by his son Donald F. (Jr.), Watertown; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn F. and William E. Linke (Jr.), Waupun, WI. Grandchildren: Dawna Towles, Anna Towles (son Austin, daughter Emma), Gabriel Towles (fiancée Sammy Jo Seager; daughter Delila) and Ramsey Towles all of Watertown. William Linke, III (son Liam) and Lindy Linke (sons Landon, Sullivan & daughter Malena), all of Waupun, WI. Two brothers Allan, Belleville and Raymond, Adams. Four sisters Ruby Jackson, Watertown, Rosemary Hedger, Adams, Shirley Stewart, Watertown an Paula Cobb, Mannsville. Don is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

      Donald was predeceased by six brothers Ralph, Alfred, Bert, Francis, Ronald "Pete" and John in infancy. Three sisters Eva Sochia, Iva Bartlett and Ruth Peters also predeceased him.
