      Helen M. Deptuch, 84, formerly of South Landing Road, died Tuesday morning at Sunrise Nursing Home, Oswego, where she had been a resident since 1987.

      Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Syracuse, daughter of Milton and Edna Applegate, she attended school in Syracuse.

      She married Whitey Melin in the late 1930s. Mr. Melin died in 1943. She married John M. Deptuch in 1946 in New York City. Mrs. Deptuch moved to Ellisburg in 1968. Mr. Deptuch died July 2, 1981, in New York City.

      While living in Ellisburg, Mrs. Deptuch was active at the Ellisburg United Methodist Church and was a member of the Willing Workers. She was also a member of the Ellisburg Fire Department Auxiliary, and for years was the "cake lady" at the Friday night fish dinners held at the fire hall.

      Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Dorene and Michael Nolan, Pulaski; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wallace Melin, New York City, and John and Belle Deptuch and Russell and Janice Deptuch, all of Bellingham, Wash.; two brothers, Russell Applegate, Fla., and Donald Gorman, Long Island; four sisters, Eleanore Silva, North Carolina, Bernice Bany, Florida, Irene Applegate, Wisconsin, and Florence Bond, New York City; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

      Two sons, Donald Deptuch and Walter, and a brother, Roy Applegate; a sister, Ruth Kane, and a great-grandson died before her.

      The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery.

      Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
