      TELLMANN GEORGE JOHN TELLMANN,JR. (Age 86) Of Fleming Island, Florida, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015. George was born August 8, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to George and Susanna Tellmann. George was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Constabulary Forces in Germany at the close of WWII. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in Business and earned a Master's Degree in International Relations from American University in Washington, DC. George's career in Communications began in Dublin, Georgia where he spent five years as an Announcer and Engineer at WMLT - Dublin Broadcasting Company. He spent the next fifteen years with AT&T conducting overseas operations and negotiations related to the first transatlantic telephone cables. In 1968, George moved to Comsat Corporation where he managed operations and negotiations for communication satellites, representing the United States in the International Telecommunication Satellite organization "Intelsat" and the International Maritime Satellite organization "Inmarsat" for which he was later chairman of the Inmarsat Council. In 1988, he retired from Comsat as Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Satellite Communication to become President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Mobile Satellite Corporation (AMSC). In 1990 he became Vice Chairman of AMSC, advising the AMSC Board until 1998. In 1992 George founded the Inmarsat Users Association (now called the Mobile Satellite Users Association) and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer until 1994. From 1994 - 2000 he served on the Board of Directors for Arrowhead Space and Communications Corporation. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards including Certificate of Achievement for Superior Contributions in Support of the Apollo Program, Medallion in Recognition of Outstanding effort in Support of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Skylab Achievement Award, Certificate of Appreciation for Superior Contributions in Support of the First NASA Space Shuttle Mission (Columbia) and Commendation from the Chairman of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee for outstanding participation in its National Coordinating Mechanism Task Force. George was kind and compassionate, loved by all, especially his wife of 66 years, Mia. In addition, George is survived by his children, George Tellmann (Karen) of Fleming Island, FL, Jeff Tellmann of Cheshire, CT and Peter Tellmann, of Herndon, VA. Loving grandfather of Kristin Hungerford (Matthew), Michael Tellmann, Jeffrey Tellmann, Jr. (Jessica) and Nicole Bremer (Thomas); and great grandfather of Parker Tellmann. George is also survived by his brother, Rudy Tellmann (Mary) of Hatboro, PA. A Memorial service will be held this summer at Arlington National Cemetery.
