CAMDEN - Mrs. Mina Fauser, 80, widow of Christian A. Fauser, died last night at her home, 38 Third St., after a short illness.

The daughter of John and Mary M. Wernlr [sic; Wernli] Obrist, she was born Feb. 7, 1875 in Schniznauf [sic], Switzerland, and came to this country with her parents when seven years old.

The family first settled in Carthage, then moved to Altmar before coming to this village about 60 years ago.

She was married to Mr. Fauser here about 58 years ago in a ceremony performed by the Rev. Edward Evans. Mr. Fauser died October 31, 1946.

Mrs. Fauser attended the United (Presbyterian) Church; was a member of Queen Village Rebekah Lodge, Camden, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Paul [Magdalena] Seubert, Camden; three sons, Charles, at home; and George and Paul, Camden; three grandchildren, Sandra, Gary and Robert Fauser, Camden; two sisters, Mrs. Earl Tanner, Albany, and Mrs. Anna Matteson, Altmar; two brothers, John, Syracuse, and Herman Obrist, Utica; also several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday at their convenience.

[Daily Sentinel (Rome, NY), Friday evening, July 15, 1955, page 4]

Note: She was listed as being age 6 years, under the name of Maria Obrist, arriving with her mother and three siblings on the steampship Labrador in New York on April 26, 1883.

Could the town of her birth "Schniznauf" (there is no place with that name) actually be Schinznach, Switzerland?
