    • Newspaper Obituary - Friday, November 29, 1918 Fayetville Bulletin - Kirkvilleman Fatally Injured - Earl Slingerland Victim Of Motorcycle Accident - Was Riding With W.G. Simmons Of Syracuse When Machine Crashed Into A Farmer's Rig - Earl Slingerland of Kirkville died Thursday morning at the Crouse Irving hospital of injuries received when a motorcycle on which he was riding crashed into a farmer's rig on the Minoa-Kirkville state road. W. G. Simmons who was driving the motorcycle is at the hospital with his right arm and collar bone broken. Slingerland was unconscious when Dr. S. I. Bishop of Minoa reached the scene of the accident. The tangled wreckage of the motorcycle and farm wagon were in the ditch at the side of the highway. The farmer had been thrown clear and escaped with a few bruises. The others were pinned in the wreck. The horse was instantly killed. A few minutes before the accident the men on the motorcycle passed Dr. Bishop on the road. He said they were going in the direction of the city. A moment after the physician arrived home he received a call telling him of the accident. Coroner Crane visited the scene of the accident Thursday but was unable to find a vestige of the wreckage. Inquiries failed to reveal the identity of the farmer whose wagon was smashed and horse killed and who escaped serious injury himself by a narrow margin. How the dead animal had been removed so quickly Coroner Crane could not understand. Slingerland, who was 29 years old, was reputed to be the fastest race horse driver at the Kirkwood Driving Park. He left his home to take a ride on Simmon's machine, according to his widow. The funeral service for Mr. Slingerland will be held in the undertaking rooms of A. C. Schumaker at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The body will be taken to South Onondaga for burial in the family plot. Suriving the man besides his widow, Mrs. Thelma Slinglerland, are two daughters, Evelyn and Vivian; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Myers; two brothers, Charles Slingerland and Fred Myers, and three sisters, Pearl, Genevieve and Dorothy Slingerland.
