      Kevin -

Here's how I came to the conclusions I did...

in 1850, per US Census, Andrew and Jemima Kinsman are in Oswego, NY with their 7 children, including sons Lester age 18 and Nelson age 1.

in 1860 per US Census, Andrew and Jemima Kinsman are now living with 4 children, including sons Nelson now 11 and and "Mntrello" age 1.
Lester age 28 is now living separately with wife Amelia and son John age 1.

In 1870, per US Census, Lester and Amelia have 5 children, including son Lester age 9.

in 1880, per US Census, Nelson age 30 and brother "Mont" age 22 are boarders in PA along with a Lester age 18 - it fits that this is their nephew via brother Lester and Amelia.

The 1890 US census was lost/damaged, so the next US Census we have is 1900. At this point, Nelson is living with neice Flora and nephew Roy ages 16 and 13. There is no record from this point forward of Montrello - my guess is he died sometime between Roy's birth and 1900. Both Nelson and Lester remain traceable until their deaths.
Lester has married Ida around 1885 and has 4 children. I'm assuming you descend from Lester/Ida.

I obtained both Flora and Roy's death certificates from the state of PA a few months ago and they were very helpful in establishing parentage. Flora's parents are listed as Montecello Kinsman and Minnie Alderman. Roy's are listed as Benjamin Kinsman and Minnie Alderman. I'm guessing that Montecello/Montrello/Mont and Benjamin are the same person.

Roy was my greatgrandfather and died before I was born. He was very quiet about his past, never really talked about his uncle Nelson or his sister Flora. Flora married shortly after the 1900 census was obtained, at age 16, and to a man nearly 10 years older than herself; we believe they eloped given her young age and their marriage occurred in the first significant town over the state line in NY. Nelson died in 1909 shortly after my grandmother was born, and Flora lived past 1930.

My uncle and I did call the county offices in McKean a few years ago to inquire about Flora and Roy and whether there were adoption records for them. The clerk was official in relaying that adoption records are sealed, but implied yes, they did exist. We have not pursued opening those records as of yet. I'm satisfied with the information the death certificates revealed.

I hope all this helps round out your story and push through any roadblocks.

      Kate
