    • Russell Edward Morris Sr., retired Air Force SMsgt, 82, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Hendrick Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, 1202 South Pioneer Drive with Reverend Douglas Durks officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Abilene Funeral Home, 3349 N. 12th Street.

      Mr. Morris was born on October 30, 1928 to Harold and Miriam Morris in Lima, Ohio. He graduated from Lima South High School, married Gracelee Huddleston on June 23, 1946 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1950. He was stationed in France, England, Germany, Japan, Okinawa and many bases in the U. S., with SOG in Vietnam where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from Dyess AFB in 1977. He was a private and commercial pilot and belonged to the Civil Air Patrol where he participated in search and rescue missions. He bowled, and was also a member of the Key City Channel Masters in Abilene, who for many years directed the parking of cars at the West Texas Fair and rodeo and ushered many events at the Coliseum and Civic Center. He loved hunting and fishing. In 1975, he and Gracelee bought their first R.V. and started camping in comfort. They spent many summers camping and campground hosting. They belong to Good Sam's and Holiday Rambler Recreation Vehicle clubs. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

      Survivors include his wife of 64 years and eleven months, Gracelee Morris; daughter Judith Stover and husband, Don, of Columbus, OH; son, Russell Morris Jr., retired Air Force MSgt and wife, Julie, of Centreville, VA; step-grandson, Air Force SSgt John Powers and wife, Lilybeth, of Tinker AFB, OK; great granddaughter, Lilyannah Powers; granddaughter Jennifer Davis, Air Force A1C and husband, Chris, of Eielson AFB, AK; sister Dorla McCoy of Bluffton, OH; and sister-in-law, Margaret Morris of Lima, OH.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, 1202 S. Pioneer, Abilene, TX 79605, Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene, TX 79601 or Rescue The Animals, 5933 S. 1st Street, Abilene, TX 79605.
