      The funeral for Francis C. Towles, 81, of 4920 N. Jefferson St., will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Terry E. Plaugher, pastor of Fernwood Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Orwell Cemetery.

      Mr. Towles died Sunday evening in James Square Health and Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient since May 16.

      Calling hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

      He worked in the power plant unit at Schoeller Technical Papers Inc. from 1966 until his retirement in 1985. He previously had operated a dairy farm and worked at the milk plant in Mexico.

      He was a member of the Fernwood Baptist Church and he enjoyed woodworking.

      Born July 16, 1920, in the town of Ellisburg, son of Frank and Mabel Hess Towles, he attended the Taylor Settlement rural school. He worked on various dairy farms and drove milk truck in the southern part of the county.

      He married Edith M. Hobbs on Sept. 20, 1940, in Adams. The couple moved to the Pulaski area in 1941. She died March 7, 2000.

      Surviving are a daughter, Susan Green, Minetto; two sons, F. David, Richland, and Douglas S., Pulaski; six sisters, Eva Sochia, St. Regis Falls, Ruby Jackson, Pulaski, Ruth Peters, Rodman, Shirley Stewart, Watertown, Rosmary Hedger, Adams, and Paula Cobb, Mannsville; six brothers, Bert, Alexandria Bay, Donald, Watertown, Ralph and Raymond, both of Adams, Allen, Pulaski, and Ronald, Mannsville, six granddaughters and five great- grandchildren.

      A sister, Iva Bartlett, and two brothers, John and Alfred, died before him.

      Donations may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, 146 County Route 41A, Pulaski, N.Y. 13142, or to a Hospice organization of one's choice.
