      Bert F. Towles, 72, Route 12, died Wednesday in Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where he had been a patient since April 18.

      Mr. Towles was a self-employed dairy farmer and had also worked at Garlock Farm. He previously had driven tractor-trailer for Pilot Freight.

      Born Feb. 23, 1931, in Belleville, son of Frank and Mabel Hess Towles, he attended Belleville Union Academy and served in the Army during the Korean War.

      A marriage to June Fletcher ended in divorce. He married Carol Dingman Flath on Nov. 17, 1984. She died April 16, 1985.

      Surviving are a son, Kelly, Florida; three daughters, Deborah Side and Connie Dack, both of Alexandria Bay, and Kathy Allen, Plessis; five sisters, Ruby Jackson, Pulaski, Ruth Peters, Rodman, Shirley Stewart, Watertown, Rosemary Hedger, Adams, and Paula Cobb, Mannsville; five brothers, Donald, Watertown, Ralph and Raymond, both of Adams, Allen, Belleville, and Ronald, Mannsville, and eight grandchildren.

      Two sisters, Iva Bartlett and Eva Sochia, three brothers, John, Alfred and Francis, and a son, Stacy, died before him.

      A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery.

      There will be no calling hours.
