    • William R. Widrig - 1866 - September 13, 1911. Son of James and Flora Widrig. Husband of Laura E. Wilbur Widrig.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, September 20, 1911 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - William Widrig Dies - Injured While Catching a Ride on a Milk Train - Last Wednesday about noon, as William Widrig, of New Centerville was jumping aboard the milk train, leaving Richland for the east, he fell under the train and the trucks went over his arm. He was picked up and rushed to Watertown hospital where the arm was amputated at the shoulder, bat the man was so reduced by loss of blood and the - shock he died in a few minutes after the operation. His body was brought to Pierce's undertaking rooms at Altmar and then back to New Centerville where a service was held at one o'clock, Sunday, and the further services, with sermon by Rev. A. A. Hand, of Orwell, was held at the Methodist church, at Richland at two o'clock. The sermon was an appeal to the living to make good use of the opportunities for making their lives noble and shun the things that degrade and destroy character and virtue. William Widrig was born in New Centerville forty-seven years ago. He was son of James and Flora Widrig. He leaves besides his father, one sister, Mrs. Sumner Bishop, and a wife with eight children. Following is the report of the coroner's inquest as given by the Watertown Times: "After investigating the accident which befell William Widrig at Richland Wednesday, Coroner H. L. Smith decided an inquest unnecessary and exonerated the railroad from blame. Widrig died Thursday in a hospital here from injuries sustained by being run over by the milk train at Richland. It appears from the coroner's investigation that Widrig had been in the habit of catching rides from Richland to his home a short distance down the tracks. It is said that he had been drinking on the night of the accident and that he remarked to one of the men who picked him up that "drink was the cause of this."
