    • Newspaper Obituary - Monday, March 22, 1943 Utica Observer Dispatch - Ilion Man Shoots Self - Ilion - Floyd W. Russell, 49, Ilion restaurant proprietor, was found dead shortly before noon Sunday in his Ilion Gorge home. He had been in ill health for several(unreadable). Dr. James W. Graves, coroner, said that death was due to shock caused by a self inflicted bullet wound. He investigated with Sergt. Joseph Devins and Troopers Lew Johnson, Robert McMahon and John Miller of the State Police. Mr. Russell had operated a restaurant in Ilion Gorge for the past 12 years. Late this winter he had opened a new restaurant at 12 Union St. and had operated it for a little over a month. He was born in Hopkinton, the son of John and Ella Wheeler Russell. He married Anna Thilo on June 27, 1925 in Ilion. He had lived in this village nearly all of his life. He was employed in the Remington Arms Company as a polisher during the last war and started a taxi business here in 1919. He opened his restaurant in Ilion Gorge about 12 years ago. Mr. Russell was a charter member of the Ilion Elks Lodge and was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation. Surviving are his wife and father, one daughter, Mrs. Jane Hitchcock, Scotia; and two brothers, Chester, Ilion, and Vernon, Syracuse. The funeral will be from the home of Chester Russell, 24 Spruce St. at 9 a.m. Wednesday and at 9:30 from the Church of the Annunciation. The body will be placed in the vault of St. Agnes Cemetery until spring.

      Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 25, 1943 Ilion Sentinel - Obituaries - Floyd W. Russell Rites Held Wednesday - Funeral rites for the late Floyd W. Russell were conducted Wednesday morning at 9 at the home of his brother Chester Russell, 24 Spruce St. and at 9:30 in the church of the annunciation. Mr. Russell was born in Hopkinton, the son of John and Ella Wheeler Russell. He married Anna Thillo on June 27, 1925, in Ilion. Most of his life was spent in this village. He was employed in the Remington Arms Co. as a polisher during the last war, and started a taxi business here in 1919. For the past 12 years he had operated a restaurant in the Ilion Gorge, and about a month ago he had opened a new restaurant at 12 Union St. He was a charter member of the Ilion Lodge of Elks and a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation. Mr. Russell's voluntary death on Sunday at his home in the Ilion Gorge is attributed to the failing health which had beset him during the past few years. Surviving are his wife and father; one daughter, Mrs. Jane Hitchcock, Scotia; and two brothers, Chester, Ilion and Vernon, Syracuse. The body has been placed in the vault of St. Agnes cemetery until spring.
