  Lucille A. Shampine SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2012 Lucille A. Shampine, 62 , of 23292 Gardner Drive, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Mrs. Shampine was born in Gouverneur, a daughter of Louis N. and Jennie Johnson Collier. She graduated from Harrisville Central School in 1967 and attended Morrisville Technical College for Phlebotomy. Mrs. Shampine began her career as a phlebotomist in hospitals in Johnson City and Carthage. She was employed by Drs. Fitzgerald and Finnerty, later OB-GYN Associates, until it closed in September of 2006, then employed with Samaritan Health System, retiring in 2009. On September 15, 1972, she married David C. Shampine at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Pitcairn, NY, in an ecumenical service with Fr. Hugh J. Connaghan and Rev. Edwin Elliot officiating. Mrs. Shampine was a member of St. Patrick's Church. She made many contributions to St. Patrick's Parish in Watertown; as a past school board member, bereavement councilor and spent several years co-chairing "Tricky Trays," a special silent auction fundraiser for the school. Mrs. Shampine was an originator of the Elizabeth Ministry at St. Patrick's Parish. She was the force behind the ministry at Samaritan Medical Center for families that had lost a child during pregnancy or that were stillborn. A fellow member of the ministry commented that Lucy donated a box of angel pins among many other things; she was so generous in her support of the ministry. Luci underwent open heart surgery twice, once in 1995 and once in 2009. She and her husband held Dr. Mehdi Marvasti, Syracuse, and the personnel at St. Joseph's Hospital, in high esteem for saving her life on both occasions. Surviving besides her husband are two sons and their wives, Scott D., Watertown and Tonya, Pulaski, and Steven A. and Julie, Colorado; two brothers, Eugene Collier, Sandy Creek, and Derek Collier, Gouverneur; three grandchildren, Lawrence Austin, Jennifer J. and Lindsey A. Shampine, all of Pulaski; a sister-in-law, Bette Shampine, Carthage; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral mass at St. Patrick's Church with Reverend Donald Robinson officiating and Reverend George Maroun concelebrating. Burial will be in New St. James Cemetery Carthage, NY.
