- Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, October 10, 1995 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - Deceased Name: RETIRED FARMER DONALD A. ACKLEY DIES AT 75 - Donald A. Ackley, 75, of 9187 Powers Ave., retired farmer, died at 5 a.m. Monday at Genesis HealthCare, Watertown, where he had resided since Dec. 30. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Surviving are his wife, Alice A.; two sons, Donald E., Rodman, and Clinton A., Watertown; three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Amelia) Russell, Syracuse, Mrs. Leo (Louise) Russell, Kissimmee, Fla., and Mrs. Michael (Edna) Stevens, Lacona; two brothers, Robert, Adams Center, and John, Parish; two sisters, Anne Randall, Watertown, and Rosella Ackley, Florida; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A sister, Janet Brasie, died previously. Born March 24, 1920, in the town of Worth, son of Ralph and Edna Norman Ackley, he attended school in Worth and worked for Harvey Hoan of Henderson before entering the Army in 1940. He served five years during World War II in the European Theater of Operations and married Alice A. Reed on March 13, 1946, in the parsonage of the Adams Congregational Church with the Rev. William Aubry officiating. Mr. Ackley worked for Carrier Corp., Syracuse, for several years, and also for Oberdorfer Industries Inc., Syracuse. Before moving to Belleville in 1960, he worked on the dairy farm of Willis Green for 22 years. Mr. Ackley retired in 1982. He and his wife resided at Country View Apartments, Adams, for a time and, in 1991, moved to their home in Lacona. Mr. Ackley was a member of the Adams Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
