    Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, October 6, 1921 Camden Advance-Journal - Camden, New York - Alva Dayton West - Camden Man Who Died in House of Good Shepherd Hospital, Syracuse, Saturday Morning - Former Prominent Member of Calvary Church, Syracuse Where the Funeral Was Held - Alva Dayton West, of this town, brother of A. E. West, the well-known South Park street grocer, died Saturday 8 a.m. in the House of the Good Shepherd at Syracuse, where he went the previous Sunday for treatment. He had been ailing for two years from diabetes. Mr. West was born in Camden July 20, 1867, and was a son of Gaylord H. West and Ruth Damon West. His boyhood was spent here. His education was completed at Crown Point. For nineteen years he resided in Oswego and Syracuse, in the latter city being a prominent member of Calvary Episcopal church. He was a lay reader of the church, head of the Vestry for seven years and president of the Brotherhood for two years. He was superintendent of the Truant school for five years, and later superintendent of the Detention Home. Leaving Syracuse he went to Massachusetts to do social work in the Shirley school for boys. From here he was called to Thorn Hill, Pennsylvania, to engage in similar were. Altogether, he was engaged in social work for about ten years and had a great natural tact for it. He was a very clever, fine Christian man whose death is mourned by all who knew him. Two years ago last March he purchased a farm about three miles northeast of this village and came back to his native town. On Thanksgiving day, 1894, he married Miss Anna Wild of Oswego, who survives with three sons, G. Stanley West, Y.M.C.A. physical director at Cleveland, Ohio, Herbert and Kirk who were associated with their father in conducting the farm. He leaves one grandson, G. Stanley West, Jr., of Cleveland, and a brother, Addison E. West of Camden. The funeral was held Monday 2 p.m. in Calvary Episcopal church, Syracuse, Rev. Theodore Haydn, a cousin of the deceased, officiating. The remains were taken to Orwell, and interred in the family plot. Besides the media family there were present from Camden Mr. and Mrs. A. E. West, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Herman.

    Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 6, 1941 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Mrs. Hannah West - Mrs. Hannah West, 70, widow of Alva Dayton West, died Sunday, August 3, 1941 at her home in Syracuse. She was born in England. Surviving are three sons, Rev. George S. West, Osceola Mill, Pennsylvania, and Herbert D. and Kirk West of Syracuse; a sister, Mrs. Lexey Hole; four brothers, Fred, Stanley, Alex and James Wild, and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Calvary Episcopal Church, Syracuse, Tuesday morning. Burial was in Orwell cemetery.

    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, July 1, 1914 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mr. Gaylord West - At the home of his son, Mr. L. H. West of 78 Second street, occurred the death of Mr. Gaylord West at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. Mr. West has been in poor health since 1904 and confined to his bed for the past seven months. Mr. Gaylord West was born in the town of Orwell April 19, 1833, and spent the most of his life in Oswego county. In 1861 he was a resident of Camden and held a position as sawyer for Mr. Taber in the mill known as the Meeker saw mill. While he resided in Camden he was a member of the fire Department. Mr. West came to Camden with his son, Mr. L. H. West, in 1913, with whom he has made his home since 1909. He is survived by his wife and three sons, L. H. West of Camden; A. D. West of Syracuse; A. E. West of Rome and one brother, Alva D. West of Wisconsin, who is 93 years old. The funeral will be held from the residence of Mr. L. H. West at 1 p.m. Friday. Rev. Frederick Maunder will be the officiating clergyman. The remains will be taken to Orwell on the afternoon train. -Camden Advance, 25th of June. - Mr. West was well known to many in the Democrat parish.

    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 10, 1915 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Sudden Death Yesterday - Mrs. Ruth West died yesterday afternoon after an illness of less than a day. Mrs. L. H. West was away yesterday and the deceased got her son's dinner yesterday, and about 4 o'clock was taken sick. A physician was called, but her illness did not seem serious. At noon yesterday, she seemed better and her son, Mr. L. H. West, went to work after dinner. Later she was worse and died at about 2 of acute indigestion. Ruth Damon was born in Orwell, May 17, 1835, and was nearly 80 years old. About 60 years ago she married Gaylord H. West, who died here last June. Most of her life has been spent in Oswego county at several places. About 45 years ago she was a resident of Camden for a short time, and since September, 1913, has lived here with her son. Mrs. West was a member of the M. E. church of Oswego, and was a cheerful, lovable woman, who had a good word for everyone. She is survived by three sons: A. E. West of Rome, A. D. West of Syracuse, and L. H. West of Camden, who have the sympathy of the community in the loss of a devoted mother. The funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. from the home of her son on Second street, with Rev. Frederick Maunder as the officiating clergyman. The remains will be taken to Orwell on the 2:25 train for interment. - Camden Advance, March 4.

    Newspaper Article - Thursday, May 26, 1892 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Vorea - Mrs. Albert Potter’s father, who had been buried 57 years in June, was taken up last week and re-interned in the Evergreen cemetery at the village. The top of the casket where his initials and age were put on with brass nails was found to be as solid as ever. There must have been something about the nails that preserved the wood, as the rest of the casket was all decayed. Mrs. Potter's mother, who resides with her, is confined to her bed.
