    Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, April 10, 1958 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - L. G. Dunbar Rites Are Today - Leon G. Dunbar, 67, died suddenly at his home in Richland early Tuesday morning. He had suffered a heart attack a few years ago and had been in poor health, but had been feeling much better. Services will be held at the Foster Funeral Home Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jay W. Wilcox, pastor of the Richland Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery at Orwell. Masonic rites were held Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Finster Dunbar; two sons, Harwood Dunbar of Fulton and John Dunbar of Richland; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Marion) Spicer of Syracuse; 11 grandchildren and a brother, Chester A. Dunbar of Lakeland, Florida. Mr. Dunbar was born in the Town of Boylston, September 19, 1890, and was the son of Henry and Emily Stevens Dunbar. He was married to Miss Bessie Finster, June 24, 1913, and came to Richland where he conducted a garage for a while. He had been an oil distributor for the Sinclair Oil Company since 1927, which he operated with his brother, Chester Dunbar, under the name of Dunbar Brothers. In 1951 Chester retired from the business and Mr. Dunbar and his son, John, conducted it until 1955 when John assumed it under Dunbar Oil Company. He was a member of the Richland Methodist Church and Pulaski Lodge, 415, F. & A.M.

    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, January 22, 1975 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Dunbar of Richland dies - Mrs. Bessie S. Dunbar, 81, of Ridge Road, Richland, died on Saturday, January 18 at Mexico, New York. She was born on May 23, 1883 at Orwell, the daughter of Ward and Elizabeth Hilton Finster. She attended Orwell and Pulaski schools and graduated in a teacher’s training class. She married Leon J. Dunbar in 1912 at Orwell. The couple always resided in Richland where her husband and Chester Dunbar owned and operated Dunbar Brothers Oil Company. Her husband passed away in 1958. Mrs. Dunbar, a member of the Park United Methodist Church, is survived by two sons, Harwood A. Dunbar of Fulton and John E. Dunbar of Richland; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Marion) Spicer; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21 at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski with the Rev. Edwin A. Potter officiating. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.

    Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 26, 1927 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Henry W. Dunbar - Henry W. Dunbar, 80, Civil War veteran and native of Oswego County, died last Friday afternoon at the home of his son, Leon G. Dunbar, Richland. He had been in poor health for a number of years and a few hours prior to his death suffered a shock of paralysis. Mr. Dunbar was born November 15, 1846, in the town of Sandy Creek and lived there until the Civil War, when he enlisted in Company 1, 193rd Regiment, New York Volunteers. Receiving an honorable discharge in 1866 with the rank of sergeant major at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, he then returned to the town of Boylston, in the eastern section of Oswego County. A short time later he was married to Miss Emily Stevens and lived there about 40 years. His wife died 17 years ago. While he had followed farming, he was a carpenter by trade and was engaged in the business until 12 years ago, when he went to Richland where he has since lived with his son. Mr. Dunbar was a member of Olmstead Post, G.A.R., Orwell, up to the time of its disbandment a number of years ago. Surviving are four sons, Frank S. Dunbar of Sandy Creek, Chester E. Dunbar of Richland, Dr. Alvah G. Dunbar of Pulaski and Leon Dunbar of Richland, and a daughter, Mrs. Nicholas J. Shafty of Denmark, Lewis County. Last rites were held from the Dunbar home at Richland at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Walter Clement of Taberg, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church.

    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 23, 1917 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Emily Dunbar - Emily, wife of Henry Dunbar, died suddenly at her home in Richland Monday evening. She was a sufferer from organic heart trouble and was stricken while in the automobile of her son, Dr. A. G. Dunbar. She had asked her son to take her to the home of her mother, Mrs. Huldah Stevens in Boylston and about seven o'clock while on her way and near the village of Orwell Mrs. Dunbar complained of illness. Her son gave her some medicine, and then turned the car around and sped back to Richland. Dr. Dunbar assisted his mother from the machine and went inside the house gave her more medicine. He also called Dr. J. L. More of Pulaski. When Dr. More arrived about 8:30 o'clock, Mrs. Dunbar was dead, having passed away ten minutes earlier. Coroner Leroy F. Hollis of Lacona was immediately notified and after learning the facts decided it inquest unnecessary. In his report, filed in the County Clerk's office today, Dr. Hollis gives heart disease as the cause of death. Mrs. Dunbar, who was most highly esteemed spent most of her life in Boylston moving to Richland a year ago. She is survived to her husband, three sons, Frank of Sandy Creek, Dr. A. G. Dunbar of Richland, Leon of Orwell and one daughter, Mrs. Nicholas Shafty of Great Bend as well as by three brothers, Rufus and Allen Stevens of Orwell and William Stevens of Boylston and two sisters, Mrs. Parker Cummins and Mrs. Cyrus Stowell of Boylston. The funeral was held at Richland at 1 o'clock Thursday. Burial in Orwell. -Sandy Creek News.

    Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 30, 1938 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Orwell - Ward Finster passed away Monday morning, March 28, at one o'clock, from a short illness of pneumonia, aged 75 years and 3 months. Mr. Finster was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Hilton August 19, 1880, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jasper Finster, four daughters, Mrs. P. J. Clark, Mrs. M. D. Pennock, Mrs. R. E. Armstrong of Orwell and Mrs. Leon Dunbar, of Richland, several grandchildren and one brother, Lewis Finster of Pulaski. A private funeral services were held in the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and burial made in Evergreen cemetery. Rev. C. T. Martin officiated.

    Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, August 26, 1943 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Elizabeth Finster Dies In Orwell - Mrs. Elizabeth Janet Finster, widow of Ward Finster, died Tuesday evening following a short illness, at the home of her grandson, Robert, on the Orwell-Lacona road. She was born October 13, 1862 in the town of Orwell, the daughter of Richard and Betsy Bass Hilton and lived most of her life in Orwell. She was a member of Orwell Union church and of the Willing Workers group of that church. Surviving are: one son, Supervisor J. J. Finster, Orwell; four daughters, Mrs. Marshall Pennock, Mrs. Robert Armstrong, Mrs. Florence Clark, all of Orwell, Mrs. Leon Dunbar, Richland; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the home of her grandson, Robert Finster. Rev. Victor G. Fellows, Altmar, will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery, Orwell.
