    Notes:

Newspaper Article - April 5, 1934 Sandy Creek News - Sketches - Cyrus Hubbs - Another name which should be included in the list of early settlers of the Town of Sandy Creek is that of Cyrus Hubbs, who lived on the Ridge Road. He was of Dutch descent, an ancestor having come from England, with his wife and young son, to settle on Long Island. This son, after his marriage, moved to Jonesville, Saratoga County where he purchased several hundred acres of land and became on of the pioneer settlers. He died in 1804(Maybe mistype 1809?), leaving his land to his son John Hubbs, who died there in 1850 leaving 12 children, among them Cyrus Hubbs, who was born January 15, 1804. Cyrus Hubbs moved to the town of Sandy Creek and settled on the Ridge road, later moving to Wisconsin. He had a large family of children. One of his sons, George L. Hubbs, father of Justice Irving G. Hubbs, and Mrs. Albert K. Box of Pulaski, was born in Sandy Creek April 18,1841 and when young went with his parents to Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Second Wisconsin regiment at the time of the Civil War, afterward coming back to this town where he spent much of his early life. For some years he was a merchant in Lacona, having built the block which formerly stood on the site of the bank. The last years of his life were spent in Pulaski, where he died January 19, 1922. John Hubbs, another son of Cyrus Hubbs, was born June 1832. On January 25, 1853 he married Phila Harding, daughter of Solomon and Harriet Mellon Harding, who was born at Richland, September 28, 1833. She died June 24, 1917 and her husband on December 12, 1921. They had no children. After the death of his wife Mr. Hubbs lived in his old home at Lacona with H. H. Chapman, a relative of Mrs. Hubbs and whom he had brought up as a boy.

Cyrus married Harriet Reed. Harriet (daughter of Lot H. Reed and Dorcas Payne) was born on 15 Feb 1806 in Saratoga, New York, USA; died on 30 Aug 1870 in Pleasant Hill, Winona, Minnesota; was buried in Ridgeway, Winona County, Minnesota, USA. [Group Sheet]
