    Newspaper Obituary - October 31, 1957 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Raymond Dyer, 30, Dies of Burns Suffered in Fire - Raymond Dyer, 30, died Saturday afternoon, October 26, 1957 in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown. He was burned in a fire which destroyed his home in Richland October 13, resulting in the death of his five-year-old son, Paul Douglas Dyer, and his uncle, Charles F. Lowrey, 60. The latter for out of the house but went back in to find the little boy. Beverly Dyer, 8, whom her father rescued from the fire is in the same hospital recovering from second and third degree burns of the arms, face, hands and neck. Four other people escaped from the burning building: Mrs. Irene Tilkins Dyer, wife of Raymond Dyer, two other sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, Bruce Dyer, 7 and Daryl Eugene Dyer, who was born last March 17; and a neighbor, Allan Wart, 10. The latter was spending the night in the Dyer home when fire evidently caused by a defective space burner, destroyed the home. Mr. Dyer was born September 26, 1927 at Rodman, the son of Floyd and Aurelia Lowrey Dyer. At the time of his death he was employed by the Winkelman Construction Company of Syracuse. Surviving are his wife and three children; his mother, Mrs. Aurelia Schmitz, and a brother, Stanley Dyer, both of Syracuse. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home in Pulaski. The Rev. Jay Wilcox, pastor of the Richland Methodist church, officiated. Burial was in Richland cemetery.

Skotnicki, 68, of 2769 County Route 2, died Dec. 23, 1997 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. Born in Richland, she was a life resident. Mrs. Skotnicki belonged to the Richland Fire Department Auxiliary and the town of Richland zoning board. She was the former commisioner of the Richland Fire District, and election inspector for the town of Richland. She was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Dyer, who died in 1957, and her second husband, Joseph, who died in 1994. Surviving are three sons, Joseph II of Richland, Bruce "Pete" Dyer of Pittsburgh, and Daryl Dyer of Butler, Pa.; a daughter, Beverly Ackley of Adams Center; three brothers, Robert Tilkins of Sarver, Pa., Ronald Tilkins of Baltimore, and John Tilkins of North Syracuse; a sister, Bonnie Salisbury of Richland; 19 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Skotnicki, 68, of 2769 Oswego County Route 2, died Tuesday evening at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. Born July 2, 1929, in Richland, daughter of Louis and Florence Brown Tilkins, she attended Sandy Creek schools and was a life resident of Richland. She married Raymond Dyer Oct. 16, 1948, in Richland Methodist Church. Mr Dyer died Oct. 26, 1957, from burns sustained in a Oct. 13, 1957, fire that also took the life of the couple's son Paul. In 1959, she married Joseph Skotnicki, who died May 22, 1994. Mrs. Skotnicki was a member of Richland Fire Department Auxiliary, a former member of Richland Town Zoning Board, was former commissioner of Richland Fire District and had been an elections inspector for the town of Richland for many years. Surviving are three sons, Joseph Skotnicki II, Richland, Bruce "Pete' Dyer, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Daryl Dyer, Butler, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Ackley, Adams Center; three brothers, Robert Tilkins, Saver, Pa., Ronald Tilkins, Baltimore, Md., and John Tilkins, North Syracuse; a sister, Bonnie Salisbury, Richland; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry officiating. Spring burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to Richland Fire Department.

Brown, 85, of Richland, died late Monday evening at the Evergreen Nursing Home, Williamstown, following a long illness. He was born November 23, 1882, at Redfield and had attended Redfield schools. For many years he was employed by the New York Central Railroad at Richland. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Mae Cowles, Geneva and Mrs. Betty Hahn, Syracuse; a son, Earl D. Brown of California, several grandchildren; three brothers, David Brown, Camden, Earl Brown, Dayton, Ohio, Mark Brown, Redfield; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Donovan, Syracuse and Mrs. Charlotte Williams, Remsen, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Foster Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. from St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery. Friends may call at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
    John was one of the builders of the Mad River Club in Redfield.

She had been a member of the Methodist church eleven years.
